Pukhraj (yellow sapphire) is the gemstone of Brihaspati (Jupiter) — worn for prosperity, marriage, wisdom and financial stability. But the market is full of heat-treated and glass-filled stones, so verification matters.
Always buy a lab-certified stone (IGI, GIA or a reputed Indian gem lab). The certificate should state “natural corundum” and note any treatment. Untreated Ceylon (Sri Lankan) yellow sapphires carry the best reputation.
Look for a warm lemon-to-golden yellow with good transparency and minimal silk. Astrologers usually recommend 3–6 carats; Jupiter gems must touch the skin, so the back of the ring should be open.
Traditionally worn on the index finger of the right hand, set in gold, on a Thursday morning of Shukla Paksha — after energising with the Guru mantra.
